Conflicting Claims as India Downs Pakistani Plane

NEW DELHI/ISLAMABAD India shot down a Pakistani plane Tuesday, both sides confirmed -- but while India said it downed a spy plane over its own territory, Pakistan insisted the aircraft was downed over Pakistan while on a training flight. Officials in Delhi said Indian troops were on a high state of alert after what they called a Pakistani navy reconnaissance aircraft was shot down by a missile inside the western state of Gujarat. They said all 16 Pakistani crew of the French-made turbo-prop Breguet Atlantique aircraft were killed when it was brought down at 11.15 a.m.
